Your child took the Navodaya or Sainik School exam. Months of hard work. Then the result came and their name was not there. The child is crying. You feel terrible. This is a hard moment for any family.

But this is not the end of the world. Every year, about 25 lakh children take the Navodaya exam. Only 45,000 get selected. The rest, about 24.5 lakh children, their future is not over. Not even close.

First, Talk to Your Child

Do not say: "You did not study hard enough" or "The neighbor's child got selected" or "Nothing can be done now."

Instead say: "It is okay, we will try again next time. You worked very hard, I am proud of you. One exam does not define your life."

5 Excellent Options — What to Do Now

Option 1: Try Another Exam

ExamSchoolFees
AMUAligarh Muslim UniversityRs. 5,000-8,000
JMIJamia Millia IslamiaRs. 5,000-10,000
VidyagyanShiv Nadar FoundationFree
RMSRashtriya Military SchoolRs. 1.3-1.5 lakh

Option 2: Try Again Next Year

Sainik School (AISSEE) has admissions in both Class 6 and Class 9. If Class 6 didn't work out, try again for Class 9.

Option 3: Join a Good Private School

Choose a CBSE school. Your child can still prepare for IIT, NEET, UPSC from there.

Option 4: Start Online Education

YouTube, Khan Academy, and many apps provide quality education at home.

Option 5: Discover Your Child's Interest

Not every child wants to be a doctor or engineer. Art, music, sports, or technology all have great careers.

How to Rebuild Your Child's Confidence

1. Create small wins. Give the child an easy task they can succeed at.

2. Share success stories. APJ Abdul Kalam, Amitabh Bachchan, they all faced failure early in life.

3. Let the child play. Sports and games help the mind recover.

4. Support from family. One exam does not change family relationships.

5. Talk to a counselor. If the child is very upset, a counselor can help.

One Exam Is Not Life

Many IIT, AIIMS, and IAS officers studied in ordinary schools. Your child is special. One exam cannot define their worth.
