What is the Three-Language Policy?
Students must learn 3 languages until Class 10:
Language 1: Mother tongue or regional language (mandatory)
Language 2: English (mandatory)
Language 3: Hindi or another Indian language (mandatory from Class 6-9)

Exemptions

3. Foreign students: Can choose their native language as the third language.

1. Additional subject: Students now have to study one more language, which adds to the academic workload.
2. More teachers needed: Schools need to hire language teachers, especially for less common languages.
3. Textbook availability: NCERT is developing textbooks for 22 scheduled languages.
4. Exam pressure: Third language marks will be included in the final result.

1. Start early: If your child is in Class 4-5, start introducing the third language now.

3. Practice daily: Spend 30 minutes daily on the third language — reading, writing, and speaking.
