JMI Class 11 Science Entrance 2027: Pattern, Syllabus and the After-Class-10 Plan

Last verified: 24 October 2026 | Reading Time: 9 min | Author: Amit Kumar

For a Class 10 student in Amroha or anywhere in western UP, Jamia Millia Islamia's senior secondary schools are one of the few Class 11 doors that open purely on a written test — no board-percentage merit list, no interview. This guide gives you the verified pattern, the chapter-level syllabus, and the coaching plan that actually fits the months between the Class 10 board exams and the Jamia test.

A note on 2027 dates: JMI had not released the 2027-28 school admission prospectus as of late September 2026, per admission trackers checking jmi.ac.in. The pattern, syllabus and test rules below are CONFIRMED from the university's published Jamia Schools prospectuses (2023-24 and 2024-25 editions, which agree on every figure used here). All 2027 dates are EXPECTED from the usual cycle and marked as such — confirm them on admission.jmi.ac.in once the notification is out. For reference, in the 2026-27 cycle Class XI forms ran 20 February to 20 March 2026 and the Science test was held on 11 April 2026, with Commerce and Arts on 12 April 2026.

The Verified Pattern: Six Sections, 100 Marks, No Negative Marking

The Class 11 Science admission test is a single offline OMR paper: 100 multiple-choice questions, one mark each, two hours. There is no negative marking and calculators are not allowed — both CONFIRMED from the prospectus instructions. Papers are set in English, Hindi and Urdu, so a Hindi-medium student is not fighting the language of the paper, only its content.

SectionMarksWhat it rewards
English25Grammar and comprehension
Mathematics20Class 10 NCERT maths
Physics15Light, current, magnetism
Chemistry15Reactions, acids, carbon compounds
Biology15Life processes, reproduction, heredity
General Knowledge10Current affairs and general awareness
Total100100 MCQs, 2 hours

Two features of this split matter more than the rest. First, English alone is worth a quarter of the paper — a student who treats English as a formality is giving away 25 marks before the science even starts. Second, the paper is the same whether the student wants PCB (medical) or PCM (engineering) afterwards: Biology and Maths both appear, so a future-engineering student cannot skip Biology and a future-doctor cannot skip Maths. Compare this with the JMI Class 9 paper, where Maths carries 30 marks and there is no separate science split — at Class 11 the weight spreads out, and breadth beats depth in any single subject.

Subject-Wise Syllabus: Class 10 NCERT, Nothing Beyond It

The prospectus sets the syllabus at the Class 10 CBSE/NCERT level. There is no Class 11 content in the paper. Here is the chapter map coaches use:

Physics (15 marks) — Natural Phenomena (light: reflection and refraction), Effects of Current, and Magnetic Effects of Current. Ray diagrams, mirror and lens formulae, and electric circuits are the perennial question banks. Numerical practice matters more than theory revision here.

Chemistry (15 marks) — Chemical Substances, Nature and Behaviour: chemical reactions and equations, acids, bases and salts, metals and non-metals, carbon compounds, and periodic classification of elements. Reaction-writing speed and the properties of common compounds decide this section.

Biology (15 marks) — World of Living: life processes, reproduction, and heredity. Diagrams with labelling, and the logic of heredity crosses, are high-yield.

Mathematics (20 marks) — Number Systems, Algebra (polynomials, linear equations, quadratic equations, arithmetic progressions), Geometry (circles, triangles), Trigonometry (ratios, identities, heights and distances), Mensuration (areas related to circles, surface areas and volumes), and Statistics and Probability. This is the largest science-side section, so it gets the most weekly hours in any serious plan.

English (25 marks) — Kinds of sentences, tenses, narration, and unseen passages, plus the usual grammar and vocabulary work. Because English is the single biggest section, daily passage practice from December onwards is non-negotiable.

General Knowledge (10 marks) — The smallest section, but also the cheapest marks in the paper. Ten minutes of daily current-affairs reading from January onwards covers it; do not let it eat into science time.

Eligibility: What to Check Before the Form Opens

Admission to Class 11 in Jamia's schools is through the entrance test only — there is no direct admission route. Applicants must have passed (or be appearing for) the Class 10 examination from a recognised board, and the prospectus sets the stream-wise minimum marks for Science admission. Do not assume the Class 9 rule (41% aggregate and 41% in English) carries over to Class 11 — the Science-stream minimum is set separately in the Class 11 section of the prospectus, so verify it in the 2027 edition before applying. The three schools offering Class 11 are Jamia Senior Secondary School, Syed Abid Husain Senior Secondary School (self-financed) and Jamia Girls Senior Secondary School (self-financed); fees differ between the regular and self-financed schools, so check the fee table in the new prospectus when ranking school preferences on the form. Full reservation and process details are in our JMI school admission 2027 guide.

The 12-Week Coaching Plan Coaches Use

The realistic window runs from the end of the Class 10 board exams to the April test — roughly 12 weeks of focused preparation, since the board syllabus and the Jamia syllabus are the same Class 10 NCERT content. Here is how JGPS coaching batches phase it:

PhaseFocus
Weeks 1-4: RebuildRe-teach Class 10 science and maths as MCQ topics, not board answers. Physics numericals, chemistry reactions, maths: algebra and trigonometry. English: one passage daily.
Weeks 5-8: Speed50 MCQs a day per subject, timed. Biology diagrams and heredity crosses drilled. GK: daily current-affairs notes. First full 100-mark paper in week 8.
Weeks 9-11: Exam modeOne full OMR paper every 2-3 days, error log per section, weak chapters re-taught. Attempt order practised: English, Maths, then the three sciences, GK last.
Week 12: SharpeningOnly the error log and previous papers. No new topics in the final week.

Two exam-hall tactics make a measurable difference. (1) Because there is no negative marking, no question is ever left blank — in the last 10 minutes, every unanswered question gets a letter. (2) Attempt order follows weight and confidence, not booklet order: English first (25 marks, warms up reading), then Maths (20, freshest mind for calculation), then the three sciences, with GK last since it needs no working. Students who practise this order on full papers build a rhythm that exam-day pressure cannot break. Our JMI entrance coaching batches run exactly this rhythm — admissions open each term, and parents can call +91 9997161490 to understand which batch fits their child's current level.

Is your child in Class 10 and aiming for Jamia Science?

The Class 11 Science window opens only once a year, and the test comes barely a month after the board exams end. JGPS runs JMI Class 11 coaching batches with the section-weight plan above, full-length OMR practice, and previous-paper analysis. Call +91 9997161490 for a free level assessment and batch schedule.

Based on the previous cycle's admission formalities, parents should have these ready when the 2027 notification arrives:

  • Class 10 mark sheet / admit card (proof of board and stream eligibility)
  • Birth certificate (for age verification against the prospectus criterion)
  • Category certificate (Muslim / Muslim OBC / Muslim Women / PWD / Kashmiri Migrant) if claiming a reservation category, with the prescribed self-declaration proforma
  • Recent passport-size photograph (same photo on admit card and test day)
  • Valid photo ID for the test day (Aadhaar card of the student works)
  • Transfer certificate from the current school
  • Proof of address as required in the form

If your child is still deciding between Jamia and Aligarh, our AMU vs JMI comparison explains how the two exams differ, and the JMI Class 6 guide covers the earlier entry point for younger siblings. The free online mock test gives a quick read on where your child currently stands.
