JMI Entrance 2027 Dates and Deadlines Tracker: What Parents Should Watch (and When)

Last verified: 25 October 2026 | Reading Time: 8 min | Author: Neha Singh

Every year, the same thing happens in Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) school admissions: parents hear about the form only after the window has already opened, and then scramble for documents, photographs and certificates in the last few days. The fix is not complicated. It is a tracker — one page you check once a week from October onwards, so no deadline ever surprises you.

Here is the honest current status first. CONFIRMED: the JMI 2027-28 school admission prospectus had not been released as of the latest public check on 24 September 2026. EXPECTED: based on the previous cycle, the notification and online forms are expected around October–November 2026. Everything in the 2027-28 column below is therefore labelled EXPECTED, and every 2026-27 date is CONFIRMED from last year's published cycle. Do not treat an expected window as an official date — treat it as your cue to start checking the official portal weekly.

What the 2026-27 cycle actually looked like

The last completed cycle is your best map of the next one. For session 2026-27, JMI released its schools admission prospectus in early January 2026, and online applications opened on 7 January 2026 through the admission portal. Applications covered Nursery, Preparatory, Class I, Class VI, Class IX and Class XI across the Jamia schools: Mushir Fatma Nursery School, Jamia Middle School, Jamia Senior Secondary School, Syed Abid Husain Senior Secondary School (self-financed) and Jamia Girls Senior Secondary School (self-financed).

The windows were staggered by class, which is the detail parents most often miss. Nursery, Preparatory and Class I ran from 7 to 27 January 2026. Class VI and Class IX ran from 5 February to 5 March 2026. Class XI (Science, Arts and Commerce streams) ran from 20 February to 20 March 2026. The application fee for Indian applicants was Rs. 500 in that cycle, and Rs. 1,500 for foreign nationals and NRI wards. Entrance tests for Classes VI, IX and XI were held in multiple cities — Delhi, Lucknow, Patna, Kolkata and Srinagar — while admission to the junior classes was made through a draw of lots rather than a test.

Why does this matter for 2027-28? Because JMI's pattern is stable: a prospectus, staggered class-wise windows, a modest fee, and multi-city tests. If your child is in Class 5 or Class 8 right now, the Class VI and Class IX windows are the ones that will decide your year — and in the last cycle they opened in February, not January. Parents of Class 10 students should watch the Class XI window, which historically opens last.

The 2027-28 tracker table: confirmed vs expected

Milestone2026-27 (CONFIRMED)2027-28 (EXPECTED)
Prospectus releaseEarly January 2026October–November 2026 (not released as of 24 Sep 2026 check)
Nursery / Prep / Class I forms7–27 January 2026Watch from November 2026
Class VI and IX forms5 February – 5 March 2026Watch from January 2027; expect a February window
Class XI forms20 February – 20 March 2026Watch from February 2027
Application fee (Indian applicants)Rs. 500Confirm in the new prospectus; do not assume it is unchanged
Entrance test citiesDelhi, Lucknow, Patna, Kolkata, SrinagarConfirm in the new prospectus

Read the table the right way: the EXPECTED column is a watching brief, not a schedule. The moment the 2027-28 prospectus appears on jmi.ac.in and the admission portal, every expected cell gets replaced by the official date — and that is exactly when this tracker should be re-checked. Bookmark the official sources, not aggregator pages: the university site is jmi.ac.in and the application portal is admission.jmi.ac.in.

The pre-form checklist: finish this before the window opens

The most common reason parents miss a JMI deadline is not ignorance — it is an incomplete document set discovered on the last day. Use the quiet weeks now to finish this checklist, so that when the form opens you only have to fill and pay.

  • Child's birth certificate and Aadhaar details, matching the school record exactly.
  • Previous class report card and transfer certificate status (know whether your current school issues it immediately).
  • Category or reservation documents, if applicable — these take the longest to obtain, so start first.
  • A recent passport-size photograph and signature scan in the format the portal accepts.
  • A working email ID and mobile number that you actually check — JMI communicates through the portal and email.
  • The fee payment method ready (the 2026-27 fee for Indian applicants was Rs. 500).

One more caution: several third-party sites publish JMI dates with great confidence and no source. If a date does not appear in the official prospectus or on jmi.ac.in, treat it as a rumour. In past cycles, wrong dates circulated for weeks before the official notification, and parents who trusted them either applied to the wrong portal or missed the real window entirely.

How this fits your child's preparation plan

Dates are only half the story. A February form window means December and January are your serious preparation months for Class VI and IX — not the time to start the syllabus. If your child is targeting Jamia, read our JMI Class 6 entrance pattern and coaching plan and the Class 9 subject-wise strategy alongside this tracker, and check the eligibility and reservation explainer before you apply. Class 10 students should read the Class 11 Science entrance guide, and parents weighing both universities should compare with one preparation plan for JMI and AMU. Our JMI entrance coaching page explains how JGPS batches structure this preparation through the winter months.

The discipline that wins JMI admission is boring and unglamorous: check the official portal once a week from November, keep documents ready, and never trust an unsourced date. Do that, and the deadline will never be the reason your child misses out.
